The Center for Negotiation and Mediation Training provides 33- 40 hour courses in Basic Mediation Training. Participants will explore the dynamics of conflict, power imbalances, communication skills, and neutral presentation. Skill building exercises and strategies for reaching agreement will be studied in depth. The training program will adhere to the Massachusetts SJC Rule 8 Qualification Standards for Mediators and Rule 9 Ethical Standards.
Participants will receive a Mediation Manual and a Certificate of Training upon completion.
Principal Trainer:
Ann O’Connor, J.D. is a certified mediator and adjunct law professor at the Massachusetts School of Law since 1994. She teaches Mediation, Arbitration Practice Skills; Mediation Workshop, and The Lawyer in Contemporary Society. She was founder and former Director of the Civil Conciliation Program at the Lawrence District Court, served as Conciliator in hundreds of cases in Middlesex and Essex Counties, and trained attorneys to serve as court conciliators. Previously she taught ADR at UMass-Lowell and Mediation Training at Middlesex Community College.
The 40 Hour Mediation Training courses are held several times throughout the year, in January, June and August. Additional sessions may be added as well. The course typically consists of full day sessions over a one or two week period. Training sessions can also be tailored to accommodate the needs of groups or businesses.
